I am honored to share my Mental Health Warrior Project with you. What started as a college photography project at PCC under the instruction of Kathleen Rick, has grown and has caught the attention of non-profit organizations such as the Propulsion Network in Portland, OR, which has been a dream come true for me.
My models that are featured here are dressed in Renaissance, Viking or Samoan battle style costumes and use props to represent their battle with mental health in a bold and colorful way to represent the positive choices they make with regards to their mental health. I want to thank Alejandro Barragan for making my first show possible. I also want to thank my models featured here: Jeremiah Moore, Caleb Kao, Christephen Cypher, Elijah Goodwin, Isaiah Goodwin, and Alejandro Barragan.
About me Edith aka Edie Jo Goodwin.
My family and I moved to Oregon in March 2020 because my husband was offered a job at a resort in Rockaway Beach. The day he was supposed to start was when everything shut down. No job, no proof of income, which left our family of 5 and our cat homeless. We were offered a little camper about the size of an average bedroom to stay in which ended up being 4 months.
In September, back in Colorado, my mom got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer so I flew back to be with her. 3 weeks later, in her home, I witnessed her last breath.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Musician and performer.
6:00pm
Yosi Mesbah
“When Yosi sang her first notes into that Shure SM-58, the hairs raised on the back,of my neck- a signal I use to decide whether I want to try and book someone for our venue. As she continued, I thought, “I’m in the presence of prodigious talent.” Not only a complex voice and phrasing, but extraordinary lyrics, truly sung poetry.” – Gary Adest

About yosi's work
When I returned to Oregon, I started working with a new psychiatrist. I had previously been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and PTSD for some time. I asked the psychiatrist that took over my medication management if he would evaluate me for ADHD and Autism. My boys had been diagnosed ADHD/Autistic in 2019 in Colorado Springs, CO. As I was going through the evaluation process with them I discovered that I could be too. The psychiatrist started me on a trial of medications to help with the focus issues associated with ADHD and he had increased the SNRI for depression. During this time dealing with grief, stress of starting a new business, my husband losing his father, dealing with losing money to online investment scams, and then
moving to Portland with no medication management, and being on too high a dose of medications at the time I moved, all led up to a mental health crisis in June of 2022. Since then, with support from my family and friends, and most importantly, advocating for myself, I appreciate the need to bring awareness for mental health, and battle against the stigma that is often associated with it. This is the This is the inspiration behind my Mental Health Warrior
Project.
