Renee Goust slices onions inside her heart to cook up delicious tunes of grief, abusive relationships, and social vulnerability. Served with a healthy dose of intimate lyrics and honest delivery, she offers a warm meal that is both comforting and weakening. Renee is a complex soul writing simple music. In these times of liquid love and short attention spans, she turns her back on these ideals, delving deep into her sources of pain and churning out poignant bites of melodious introspection. Her fingerstyle guitar work is soothing and her soft voice refreshing.

Renee Goust has been singing for the sensible, the misfits and the underdogs since 2007, when she moved to New York City from Mexico in search of the other half of her identity as a Mexican-American. She has two EP’s and one full-length album under her belt, all of which are self-produced, arranged, and recorded. Renee has shared her craft with audiences in the US, Mexico, and France. Her repertoire, though mostly in her native English and Spanish, also includes songs she has written in French and Italian.

In her upcoming album “Sometimes to Love You Need to Leave”, Goust attempts to heal the open wound of her family’s rejection of her sexuality by embracing it and making it feel welcome. To anyone who has struggled to stand up for their individuality, this collection of songs will feel like a safe haven. Goust’s strength lies in the courage of exploring that which most prefer to anesthetize and ignore.

Always admire a talented artist who has something real to say and Renee belongs to the few who say it very well.
